The Friends of the Central Library hosted a Silent Auction at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo on Thursday, April 15th.  The event centered around author Sara Gruen's book, Water for Elephants.  Gruen appeared at the Civic Center on April 27th as part of the Rosamond Gifford Lecture Series 2009-2010 season. 

Guests in attendance were treated to a private elephant show.  Siri the elephant welcomed guests, and showed off a few tricks.  Guests were invited to take photos and even pet Siri before going inside to enjoy appetizers, drinks, music, and 40 fabulous Silent Auction items.

The night was a great success and FOCL raised $4,100 for the Central Library.  The library will purchase books and materials with the proceeds.  Proceeds will also be used for special programming for children and adults.
